Last year, Caliber Signs & Imaging worked with RJI International CPAs on designing, producing, and installing a 3D brushed metal letter laminate lobby sign. This time around, we want to draw attention to helping this client build brand awareness by having signs with contrasting colors on walls and buildings in Orange County, CA.
Case Study: RJI International CPAs’ Building Sign
Contrasting colors get attention. In other words, the color of the wall that your sign is going to be mounted on has to be sufficiently darker or lighter to allow the individual style elements to pop. For this client, the silver letters and blue walls are consistent with their brand identity. The combination of silver and blue is fantastic for creating a color contrast that looks attractive and makes the sign easy to see.
Technicians fabricated this sign by cutting out the elements from an acrylic sheet. To maintain the spacing and logo detail of the globe, we used the water jet to cut these pieces. Next, our specialists added a silver-brushed laminate facing. The final step was installing the pieces with studs since the wall surface was very uneven. The finished product contrasts nicely, looks professional, and draws the eye.
How to Generate the Desired Color Contrast
In a perfect world, your target color for the sign and the hue of the wall will be sufficiently different to allow for excellent contrast. However, there are times when this is not the case. What should you do?
- Paint the wall. If you have already been toying with the idea of painting the building walls, now is a good time. Our technicians can offer input on finding a color that would be ideally suited for contrasting with your sign.
- Depart from the corporate color palette. When painting the facade is not an option, we recommend departing from your standard color palette. Clients often do this with lobby signs, when they choose brushed metal finishes rather than accurate color plays. We can take the same approach with your building sign. Metal laminate facings could be perfect!
- Use a panel mount. When neither choice is a good option, we offer the panel mount. This panel can take on the shape of a brand symbol or simply be a standard geometric shape that resonates with the building’s architecture. Our technicians paint this board in a complementing color that matches both tones and contrasts well with either hue.
