A Classic Sandblasted Sign for Laguna Beach Restaurant Carmelita’s Encapsulates a Rebranding

Sandblasted sign for a Laguna Beach restaurant

Serving authentic Mexican Cuisine at 217 Broadway Street, Carmelita’s meals spring from the roots of Puebla and Guadalajara culinary artistry. Recently, the restaurant underwent a rebranding that updated the ways guests interact with the brand story it began in 2012. As a result, this client contacted our shop to request an updated classic sandblasted sign for a Laguna Beach restaurant.

Sandblasted Signage Incorporates the Local Vibe

Laguna Beach is a destination for residents of the surrounding beach cities. A vibrant artist community combines with a concerted effort to maintain a small-town look and feel. As a result, business owners adapt their signage displays to fit the downtown atmosphere. Sandblasted signs and cast metal plaques are favorites.

A Sandblasted Blade Sign for Carmelita’s

We discussed the new look of the corporate brand with the restaurant’s management team. The main focus point of the signage would now be the company’s name with a very custom-style font. We replaced an existing hanging blade sign with one that consists of durable cedarwood.

This material is excellent for sandblasting and exposes a gorgeous wood grain. The sandblasting process eats away at the wood’s surface and allows the lettering to take on three-dimensional appearances. It is interesting to note that our technicians treated both sides of the blade to display Carmelita’s name. A part of the brand presence is the mention of the city’s name.

With the sign sandblasted, we painted the lettering and a frame in a creamy white, while the background wood surface contrasts with a dark oak tone. Installation was a snap with a couple of sets of sturdy eye hooks. When prospective customers now approach the restaurant from either side of the walkway, they cannot help but notice the tastefully done sandblasted sign that fits in perfectly with the laid-back Laguna Beach vibe.

Solving the Building Sign Problem with a Plaque

The blade sign looks fantastic and addresses guests approaching from the sides. However, how could the restaurant welcome prospective guests who would walk up straight to the door? We discussed the idea of adding a cast metal plaque to the attractive brick facade.

Cast metal plaque

We selected a classy bronze cast metal display with a traditional brown backdrop and light bronze color lettering for this product. The look of the plaque perfectly replicates the brand display of the blade sign. Another step we took was adding the restaurant’s name as a window graphic with white cut vinyl. Combining these products with the classic blade marker is an ideal brand display for Laguna Beach.
